All browsers are supported

Ajaxium supports all browsers, although the level of support and availability of AJAX features can vary. Ajaxium automatically activates AJAX enhancements on any browser that supports the required client-side features. One of the Ajaxium advantages is that its client-side code is not tied to any special browser version and there is no hard-coded "browser compatibility list" built in. Another advantage is that should any browser have some required Javascript features disabled for security reasons or operate incorrectly, Ajaxium silently and gracefully degrades to the standard ASP.NET postback without generating any error messages or page reloads. Put otherwise, in the event of any browser-related incompatibility problem, your ASP.NET Website will continue to operate as if Ajaxium was not used at all.

Ajaxium is not a "silver bullet"

Basically, Ajaxium's function is to enable AJAX features where it is possible. Otherwise it just displays ASP.NET page as it is. Don't rely on Ajaxium if your web application is incompatible with this or that browser version or your web pages are rendered and displayed incorrectly - adding Ajaxium to your project may not help remedy the situation. It is only in rare cases that Ajaxium can be of any use in resolving such problems. First, make sure that your ASP.NET Website displays well on all browsers you want to support and only then turn Ajaxium on. Following this simple routine will help you avoid all compatibility problems.

Browser support policy

Generally speaking, we support only fifth-generation browsers with a DOM that allows dynamic creation and removal of elements.

In addition, support is provided for browsers implementing ECMAScript E-262 edition 3 (equivalent of JavaScript 1.5). The only exception is made for IE5.0 for Windows, which still accounts for about 5% of the user market according to our statistics.

AJAX-enabled browsers

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) for Windows starting from version 5.0. This includes all IE-based browsers, such as AOL Explorer, Avant, iRider, NetCaptor, Maxthon, IBM Home Page Reader and others.
  • Gecko family of browsers. This includes Mozilla 1.x, Netscape 7.x, Doczilla, Galeon and others.
  • Opera family of browsers starting from Opera 8.5.
  • Safari 1.2 for Mac and above passes most of our tests. Minor problems may occur if scripts are loaded after the document load. Since there are ways to eliminate this glitch, Safari can also be considered as one of AJAX-enabled browsers.

Browsers that lack AJAX features

  • Older versions of supported browsers (Safari 1.0, Opera 6.x and 7.x, Netscape 4.x, IE4.x).
  • IE5.x for Mac ("Tasman" engine), which lacks ActiveX support and, among other things, has no XMLHttp object or its equivalent. Since this browser lineage has been abandoned by Microsoft, we have likewise scrapped our relevant development plans.
  • Browsers which don't support Javascript at all: lynx and similar.

Other browsers

With a market awash with thousands of different HTML rendering engines, our goal is to make our Ajaxium library embrace as many of them as only possible. This is why we are proud that the Ajaxium design allows it to support virtually all browsers in one way or another. However, due to the abundance of different browsers and testing scenarios, we are not in a position to test Ajaxium on everyone of them. So if you want to know how it performs on any of the browsers not listed on this page, please contact us and our development team will do the necessary tests for you.
